American actor infected with monkeypox urges others to get vaccinated

Matt Ford, an American actor and openly gay man, became the first person to publicly admit to having contracted monkeypox.

Matt shared that he contracted it through skin-to-skin contact with a friend in Los Angeles.

“On Friday, June 17, everything changed. I got a call from a friend in Los Angeles who told me that he had tested positive for monkeypox and that I may have contracted it over the weekend through skin-to-skin contact. Of course, I checked myself for stains and noticed a couple of breakouts in the underwear area,” Matt wrote in an article for Buzzfeed.

“I think I counted over 25 in total and there are also some in more sensitive areas that also tend to be the most painful, like it hurt so much that I had to go to the doctor and get some painkillers to just be able to sleep. It hurts like hell,” he said.

He also said that he had flu-like symptoms such as a high fever, cough, chills and night sweats.

“In addition to the spots, even before them, there are strong flu-like symptoms. I had a sore throat, cough, fever [and] chills. I was sweating through the sheets at night,” he said.

At the end, Matt encouraged everyone to get vaccinated if possible.

“I am in favor of telling everyone that if you can get this vaccine, get it. In the meantime, I urge you to be careful,” he concluded.
