The people of Ecuador have won! The country’s government, supported by the US and the IMF, backed down.
After 18 days of a general strike, protests, blockades and clashes with police in which at least six demonstrators were killed, the Confederation of Indigenous Communities and the government reached an agreement.
The agreement fulfills the demands of the people and provides, first of all, for the reduction of fuel prices, the lifting of the state of emergency and the withdrawal of the army from the barracks, the limitation of oil and mineral extraction projects in the arable lands.
