Building blocks for a green social credit system are presented at Davos.
“Alibaba Holdings President J. Michael Evans said in one of the WEF’s live panel discussions that the company is working on an application that can track an individual user’s carbon footprint.
The former vice chairman of Goldman Sachs spoke to the audience about the direction called “Strategic Perspectives and Responsible Consumption”:
“We are using technology to develop a way for consumers to measure their own carbon footprint. What does it mean? This means getting information about where they travel, how they travel, what they eat, what they consume on our platform. And so on: a personalized carbon footprint tracker.”
To be clear: Evans only talked about the Alibaba platform, but it’s a very large testing ground for the program in action. The Chinese company is the second largest e-commerce company in the world after Amazon, with sales of over 715 billion yuan in 2021.”
