The Supreme Court of the Canadian province of Quebec has temporarily suspended the right of a father to see his 12-year-old child on the grounds that the man is not vaccinated against the coronavirus and is opposed to vaccination.
The judge made the decision on December 23, emphasizing that in a pandemic situation, a visit by a father to his son is not in the interests of the child. The ban is valid until February 8, when the next meeting will take place. However, it can be removed if the father decides to get vaccinated. Family law specialist Sylvie Schirm noted that this is the first court decision depriving parents of the right of access to children due to vaccination.
The parents of the teenager are divorced, he lives with his mother. The father had the right to see his son every second weekend at the usual time and a week during the winter holidays. It was the man who applied to the court with a request to increase the number of days for visiting, but the mother opposed. She demanded to restrict access to the child, since the father is not vaccinated and speaks out against vaccination on social networks, spreading conspiracy theories.
