Brit Awards Music Awards to ditch male and female nominations from 2022

Brit Awards Music Awards to ditch male and female nominations from 2022

The organizers of the Brit Awards will be dropping the Best Performer and Best Performer nominations from next year. They will be replaced by new categories – “Artist of the Year” and “Foreign Artist of the Year”, according to the website of the award.
As conceived by the organizers, the innovation will make the award more inclusive and will allow artists to be honored for their music and creativity, and not for “who they call themselves or how others see them.”
For the first time, Brit Awards organizers started talking about gender-neutral nominations in 2019. British performers Sam Smith and Will Young called for a change in the rules: they noted that the current system excludes non-binary artists. Rapper J Hus and singer Dua Lipa were the last winners of the Best Performer and Best Performer nominations in May 2021.
▪️42nd Brit Awards will be held in London on February 8, 2022, awards will be presented in 12 nominations.
