The Russians won an important Dota 2 tournament with a record cash prize

The tenth The International, the largest esports tournament, has ended in Bucharest. For the first time in these Dota 2 competitions, the Russian team won, for which they received a record $18.2 million for the championship.
Before the start of IT 10, the team was not among the favorites: its roster was updated in December last year, and there are many young and little-known doters among the players.

Team Spirit started the group round uncertainly: only one victory in the first four meetings. Then the Russian team won four matches in a row and made it to the upper bracket of the playoffs.
In the first stage, the “dragons” lost to Invictus Gaming (1:2) and dropped to the lower bracket. Then they defeated fnatic (2:0), two-time world champions OG (2:0), other Russian doters from Virtus.pro (2:1) and took revenge on Invictus Gaming (2:0). In the duel for reaching the grand final, the Spiritualists defeated Team Secret (2:1).
The rival of Team Spirit was PSG.LGD, formed in partnership between the French PSG Esports and the Chinese LGD Gaming. At the last International, she took third place, and the second before last.

Before the start of these competitions, PSG players, including Neymar and Lionel Messi, even wished them good luck.
At this tournament PSG.LGD confidently took first place in the group with the Russian team, which they beat in the second round 2:0. In the upper bracket of the playoffs, Chinese esportsmen defeated T1 (2:1), Virtus.pro (2:0) and Team Secret (2:0).
The first two maps were won by Team Spirit, but then PSG.LGD equalized the score – 2:2. In the last and decisive battle, the Russians won. Before that, only three teams became triumphant, falling into the lower bracket during the competition – Invictus Gaming (2012), Evil Geniuses (2015) and Team Liquid (2017).

The peak online in Russian-language broadcasts amounted to more than a million people. In total, at least 2.3 million fans watched this confrontation in the world. At the same time, the statistics do not include viewers from China who watched the tournament on their platforms (not on Twitch or YouTube).

The Spiritualists received $18.2 million for their victory at The International, with a record total prize pool of $40 million. PSG.LGD earned $5.2 million.

It is worth noting that for the first time in history, two teams from Russia made it to the top six at The International. Virtus Pro players repeated their best result and took 5-6 place in this championship, for which they will be paid $1.4 million.
