The only athlete in the world who participated in eight Olympics, announced her retirement

46-year-old Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina performed for the last time in her career at the Tokyo Olympics on July 25. She was seen off with tears and applause.

Chusovitina is the only one in the world to compete at the Games eight times. In 2016, after participating in seven Olympics, she entered the Guinness Book of Records.

In 1992, she won a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics, where she played for the national team of the countries of the former USSR.

She has won gold and silver at the Olympics, three victories and eight medals at the World Championships, gold and three silver at the European Championships.

Chusovitina was supposed to carry the flag of the national team of Uzbekistan at the opening ceremony of the Games in Tokyo. But the leadership of the country’s National Olympic Committee at the last moment replaced her with another athlete.
